I have been taking naproxen for a long time now. I am also on methotrexate injections and have been stable for a number of years. But I have now developed gastric problems and my GP has advised me to come off the anti inflmatory tablet to prevent ulcers forming. I am worried as to how my joints will reacte to ceasing the naproxen. Has anyone else been in this situation or can anyone offer any adviceScared

Hiya and welcome to the forum! It has been my lifesaver for all those niggling questions.

I took myself off Celebrex a while ago, but had real problems with pain and only lasted a week! - however, I wasn't controlled by anything else so was totally relying on the anti-inlammatory and pain killers. I would love to come off them when Humira kicks in, to save my stomach. I expect you are on a stomach protector as well. I HAVE to take mine.

I hope you manage to get a good balance between protecting your stomach and pain relief - it all so tricky and frustrating.

Take care

You can take a proton pump inhibitor like Esomeprazole as mentioned earlier. You can also take anti inflammatories in suppository form! They can still affect your stomach but a lot less than oral drugs. I use Ketoprofen Suppositories but there are quite a few others.

Hi Jude
I take naproxen i find it is good for me but i only take it as and when, which works for me
I was always a bit anti- tablets until i eventually gave in and realised they could be so helpful......
Definitely ask your doctor about other options, also proton pump inhibitor i would advise an appointment to discuss this, have they mentioned alternatives to you - its so important to get it just right for you and sounds as if u may need an alternative....?
i ALWAYS take mine with or after food and mine are enteric coated (not all of them are) so meds pass through stomach to large intestine before being released.
Hope u get some good advice and support from your doctor

I dont have the same drug but took indocid R for a long time and have been on celebrex for 10 yrs now.

I HAVE to take stomach protectors with it.

I have lansoprosole to take every day.

I am finding the steroid also causes tummy issues!

I can't take NSAIDs at all!
Even though I take esomeprazole I can't take them.
I have even had an upset stomach from using ibuprofene gel so have beeen told to avoid them completely.
Hope you can find something that suits you.
